What is gastrointestinal surgery?

Gastrointestinal (GI) surgery is performed on the digestive system, and can be divided into upper GI surgery and lower GI surgery.

Upper GI surgery

Surgery focuses onthe oesophagus, stomach, and duodenum including pancreaticoduodenectomy, oesophagectomy and liver resection.

Lower GI surgery

Surgery focuses on on the small and large intestine, such as colectomy.
