Your knee is referred to as a ‘hinge joint’, meaning it allows movement in a front and back direction. However, the structure of the joint does also allow for a bit of rotation.

The knee is a complex joint, made up of bones, cartilage, ligaments and tendons. And while the structure of your knee means that it has a good deal of strength and stability, it is also quite susceptible to damage or injury by various means, including both injury and wear and tear.

Sometimes recovering from a knee injury can be challenging, requiring specialised rehabilitation.

Three of the most common injuries/problems we see with knees are:

  • Fractures around the knee joint
  • Torn or ruptured ligaments
  • Osteoarthritis (the most common form of knee arthritis)

Following trauma to your knee, sometimes an operation may be needed to aid healing and recovery. For example, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery is very common.

In other cases, a disease such as osteoarthritis may cause pain and a loss of mobility to such a degree that partial or total knee replacement surgery is advised by a specialist doctor (orthopaedic surgeon).

The recovery process after a knee operation – whether due to injury or another cause – can be challenging, often requiring specialised rehabilitation. That’s where Circle Rehabilitation can help.

Often, the right rehabilitation after a knee operation or injury can make a real difference to the extent of your recovery and long-term function.

Although some people will recover quickly from a knee injury or operation, some will need more intense therapy and support to help them regain their independence.

If you’ve recently had an operation or injury to your knee and are now finding yourself struggling to weight bear without problem, or finding it difficult to get your sense of balance back, effective and focused knee rehab can be a major factor in helping you to adjust, adapt, recover and regain a level of independence for yourself.

It’s time to accelerate your recovery.

Early knee rehabilitation can make all the difference

If you can begin your knee rehabilitation as soon possible after an injury or operation (once you doctor is happy that clinical stability has been achieved), it can help to lower the risk of further complications and improve the chance of restoring full function.

Our priorities for you

At Circle Rehabilitation, our two priorities with your knee rehabilitation are to:

  • Provide you with the best combination of specialised knee therapies possible to ensure you get your knee strength and mobility back quickly
  • To support you emotionally and physically through the rehabilitation process, and to encourage you to achieve the best recovery of your knee function possible

While many people who have an operation or injury to the knee can recover fairly quickly, sometime more intensive therapy will be required to help to regain lost strength and mobility.

This rehabilitation can involve physical therapy, exercise and the use of specialised therapeutic equipment.

Unfortunately, though, due to the ever-increasing demand on resources in the healthcare system, many people who require it can find themselves waiting days or weeks to receive any form of knee rehabilitation. This means days or weeks of debilitating knee pain and reduced mobility that could have been avoided.

That’s why we set up Circle Rehabilitation

Our rehabilitation centres provide world-class knee recovery programmes in a purpose-designed environment, with no waiting lists.

Our state-of-the-art rehabilitation centres were designed with just one aim in mind: to give people like you their independence back following a knee injury or operation as quickly as possible.

How long will my rehabilitation last?

We offer a variety of treatments, from sports physiotherapy to acupuncture, hydrotherapy to gait analysis.

The duration of your knee rehabilitation will depend on the nature and severity of your knee problem. We see post-operative knee patients for many different issues, from those in knee arthroscopy recovery to those healing from total or partial knee replacement surgery.

As a very general guide, at Circle Rehabilitation we tend to have people stay with us for their knee rehabilitation for anything between 3 nights to 14 nights, although this does vary as everyone is different.

Our rehabilitation aims to provide treatment that is both cost-effective and tailored to an individual’s requirements, rather than being based on the “one-size-fits-all” approach that is sadly all too common nowadays because of pressures on healthcare resources.

This rehabilitation model shifts the role of patients and their families from passive recipients of care to active participants and can enable patients to move back to an independent life as soon as possible. We carefully select rehabilitation technology and equipment, including:

  • Anti-gravity treadmill: can help to shorten recovery time, improve mobility and reduce injury
  • Biodex Balance System 3D: this helps to increase balance and agility
  • Hi-Tech Hydro Physio: this can help relieve joint and muscle pain and increase your range of motion
  • Biodex System 4: this measures the control and strength of isolated muscle groups
  • Shockwave Therapy: this is used to stimulate healing of muscles
  • LiteGait: this enables partial weight-bearing rehabilitation

When you have your knee rehabilitation with us, you’ll benefit from our team of highly specialised and skilled physicians. They work together to ensure you’ll receive the best care, treatment and support possible.

For example, we often find that family members can benefit hugely from talking with our specialist clinical psychologist. Recovering from a knee injury or operation can be challenging for everyone involved, and family members often find that being able to talk with someone about the unique pressures they’re facing is really helpful.

At Circle Rehabilitation, we’re not just here for you. We’re here to support you family as well while we all work towards your knee rehabilitation and getting your independence back.

Everything we do – whether with our state-of-the-art equipment and technology or through focused individual time with one of our physiotherapists – is directed to giving you back your independence as fully and as quickly as possible.

If you are struggling to regain strength and mobility in your knee after a recent accident or operation why not have your knee rehabilitation from the very best specialists, in the very finest purpose-built rehabilitation centre and with the very best possible care?
