The back (or vertebral column) extends from your head to your pelvis and is comprised of a column of bones separated and cushioned by intervertebral discs (spinal discs).

Your vertebral column has many functions, including (but not limited to):

  • Strength and Support: It helps to carry the weight of your body above the pelvis
  • Protection: It surrounds and protects your spinal cord, preventing damage to it
  • Movement: Along with associated muscles, ligaments and tendons, your spine helps you with movement and posture

The structure of your spine means that it has a good deal of strength and stability, but it is still susceptible to damage or injury by a number of means. Any damage or injury in your back can cause severe pain and serious consequences.

Sometimes a problem in the back can cause nerve (neurological) issues, if a spinal nerve is affected. This can present as pain, weakness, or loss of feeling in certain parts of the body. For example, a common side effect of back problems is leg pain.

There are different types of back surgery depending on the cause of your issue and the severity. Your doctor will only recommend surgical treatments if other, less invasive methods haven’t worked.

Recovering from a back problem – whether from injury or following surgery – can be challenging, often requiring specialised rehabilitation.

That’s where Circle Rehabilitation can help.

Often, the right rehabilitation after a back operation or injury can make a real difference to the extent of your recovery and long-term function.

Although some people will recover quickly from a back injury or operation, some will need more intense therapy and support to help them regain their independence.

If you’ve recently had an operation or injury to your back and are now finding yourself struggling to weight bear without problem, or finding it difficult to get your sense of balance back, effective and focused back rehab can be a major factor in helping you to adjust, adapt, recover and regain a level of independence for yourself.

It’s time to accelerate your recovery.

If you can begin your back rehabilitation as soon possible after an injury or operation (once you doctor is happy that clinical stability has been achieved), it can help to lower the risk of further complications and improve the chance of restoring full function.

At Circle Rehabilitation, our two priorities with your back rehabilitation are to:

  • Provide you with the best combination of specialised back therapies possible to ensure you get your back strength and mobility back quickly
  • To support you emotionally and physically through the rehabilitation process, and to encourage you to achieve the best recovery of your back function possible

Our rehabilitation centre provides world-class back recovery programmes in a purpose-designed environment, with no waiting lists.

It was designed with just one aim in mind: to help people like you regain their independence following a back injury or operation as quickly as possible.

We offer intense and personalised help with back recovery that goes far beyond what many rehabilitation centres can offer their patients.

Our highly specialised and experienced multidisciplinary team will work with you (and anyone who is helping to support you) to ensure you receive the level of help and support you need, all based on best practice and the latest research and medical knowledge in back rehabilitation.

Circle Rehabilitation in Birmingham offers you full support in a comfortable, friendly and relaxed environment. When you visit with us, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the state-of-the-art facilities we offer and the luxurious environment you’ll be in. From the tasty and nutritious meals through to the spacious rooms available you’ll be well looked after from the moment you walk in the main entrance.

With Circle Rehabilitation, the difference is obvious.

While many people who have an operation or injury to the back can recover fairly quickly, sometime more intensive therapy will be required to help to regain lost strength and mobility.

This rehabilitation can involve physiotherapy, exercise and the use of specialised therapeutic equipment.

Unfortunately, though, due to the ever-increasing demand on resources in the healthcare system, many people who require it can find themselves waiting days or weeks to receive any form of back rehabilitation. This means days or weeks of debilitating back pain and reduced mobility that could have been avoided.

If you’re experiencing problems with your back following recent surgery, get in touch with us today to see how we can help you.

For a no-obligation chat about your options, or to book an initial assessment, call the Circle Rehabilitation team on 0121 820 5700 or email [email protected]

Once we’ve spoken with you, your case will be reviewed by one of our specialist back consultants who will be able to assess your requirements. We deal with all enquiries quickly, as we know how important your back rehabilitation is for you.

If the severity of your back problem qualifies you for our intensive rehabilitation programme, we’ll be in touch to arrange a meeting with you. This can be done at one of our Rehabilitation Centres if you live nearby and are able to travel, or alternatively we can visit you at home. If you live a significant distance from our centres, we can carry out our initial assessment over the phone instead.

Circle Rehabilitation, Birmingham is ideally placed in the West Midlands for people in Birmingham, Coventry, Wolverhampton, Dudley, Stoke, Shrewsbury, Worcester and beyond.

We have people coming to us from all over the UK to benefit from the amazing level of care and support we can offer. You don’t have to be living near one of our Rehab Centres to benefit from our facilities, as we offer high quality on-site accommodation.

Having visited with you (or talked with you on the phone), we’ll draw up a comprehensive plan for your back rehabilitation. This will be tailored specifically to you and based on your requirements and what the best possible treatment and rehabilitation therapy would be for you.

At Circle Rehabilitation, our team will devise an individual treatment plan for you, including up to three hours of personal therapy a day.

We offer state of the art equipment, ample therapy space and care from a highly experienced team of therapists who are led by a rehabilitation consultant.

Your treatment plan is adjusted every day based on how you’re progressing. We measure your progress daily and can adapt the treatment plan as required.

We know that everyone is different and so we’ll make sure that your treatment plan is:

  • tailored just for you
  • based on up-to-date best practice knowledge
  • reviewed daily to ensure you’re making the progress you should be

We offer a variety of treatments, from sports physiotherapy to acupuncture, hydrotherapy to gait analysis.

The duration of your back rehabilitation will depend on the nature and severity of your back problem. We see post-operative back patients for many different issues, from spinal decompression surgery to minimally invasive spinal procedures to correct issues such as herniated discs and fractures.

As a very general guide, at Circle Rehabilitation we tend to have people stay with us for their back rehab for anything between 3 nights to 14 nights, although this does vary as everyone is different.

Our rehabilitation aims to provide treatment that is both cost-effective and tailored to an individual’s requirements, rather than being based on the “one-size-fits-all” approach that is sadly all too common nowadays because of pressures on healthcare resources.

This rehabilitation model shifts the role of patients and their families from passive recipients of care to active participants and can enable patients to move back to an independent life as soon as possible.

We carefully select rehabilitation technology and equipment, including:

  • Anti-gravity treadmill: can help to shorten recovery time, improve mobility and reduce injury
  • Biodex Balance System 3D: this helps to increase balance and agility
  • Hi-Tech Hydro Physio: this can help relieve joint and muscle pain and increase your range of motion
  • Biodex System 4: this measures the control and strength of isolated muscle groups
  • Shockwave Therapy: this is used to stimulate healing of muscles
  • LiteGait: this enables partial weight-bearing rehabilitation

When you have your back rehabilitation with us, you’ll benefit from our team of highly specialised and skilled physicians. They work together to ensure you’ll receive the best care, treatment and support possible.

For example, we often find that family members can benefit hugely from talking with our specialist clinical psychologist. Recovering from a back injury or operation can be challenging for everyone involved, and family members often find that being able to talk with someone about the unique pressures they’re facing is really helpful.

At Circle Rehabilitation, we’re not just here for you. We’re here to support you family as well while we all work towards your back rehabilitation and regaining your independence.

Everything we do – whether with our state-of-the-art equipment and technology or through focused individual time with one of our physiotherapists – is directed to giving you back your independence as fully and as quickly as possible.

If you are struggling to regain strength and mobility in your back after a recent accident or operation why not have your back rehabilitation in Circle Rehabilitation’s purpose-built rehabilitation centre.
