Specialised hand consultants at Circle Nottingham operate on a wide range of conditions. These include carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel releases, as well as trigger finger release, excision of ganglion, trapeziectomy (removal of a small bone in the wrist), Dupuytren’s fasciectomy (removal of soft tissue which is causing one or more fingers to curl up into the palm of the hand), wrist arthroscopy (inspection of the interior of the wrist, with any necessary treatment) and steroid injection with local anaesthetic into an injured or arthritic joint for pain relief.
The hand surgeons are supported in their work by theatre staff and a nursing team, as well as physiotherapists and occupational therapists who provide rehabilitation services post-op or where surgery is not deemed necessary.
Also supporting the initial assessment of patients requiring hand surgery is the one-stop service which the Treatment Centre can provide through its in-house facilities, such as phlebotomy (blood taking), laboratory processing and – in particular – imaging services. Clearly, patients requiring treatment in the Orthopaedic Department will require X-rays and/or scans to help with the planning of their treatment and to have them on site is both convenient and a factor in speeding the commencement of their treatment.
Circle Nottingham consistently receives favourable reviews. As well as providing a bright, spacious environment for patients, it offers a service designed to be friendly, informative and efficient. The following are reviews from patients, published on the NHS Choices website:
- “I went in for a trapeziectomy and was impressed by the efficient process and professional care from start to finish. Everyone was proactive in being helpful and caring and the unit was spotlessly clean. I left feeling confident of a good recovery and would happily use the facilities again.” (K.S., posted on 8 December 2017)
- “Recently had a few appointments at the Treatment Centre which led to some minor day surgery. Throughout all of the appointments, I was so impressed with the professionalism and timekeeping of the staff. On the day of surgery, I felt well looked after and in great hands. Could not fault anything to do with my recent experiences there.” (M.H., posted 9 March 2018)
- “I have been to Circle Nottingham on a number of occasions over the last few weeks to see consultants/doctors and have X-rays, CT scans and MRI scans for Achilles Tendon and wrist problems, as well as physiotherapy. All appointments have been on time, with everyone associated with all my appointments very pleasant, welcoming and professional. The NHS service has been superb and it is an excellent facility to go to. Very well done NHS!” (Posted by J.P. on 2 February 2018)
