Circle Nottingham’s Endocrinology Department is the sole service of its kind in Nottingham. It has links with the Trust’s Departments of Neurosurgery, Endocrine Surgery, Clinical Genetics and Oncology and it is registered as a Specialised Commissioned Service by NHS England, giving it access to nationally funded treatments for certain disorders.
There are clinics to support paediatric transition to adult services and education and support groups are provided for patients with adrenal insufficiency.
Two of Circle’s consultants have an ARSAC (Administration of Radioactive Substances Advisory Committee) licence, which permits them to prescribe radioactive iodine therapy to patients with hyperthyroidism (an over-active thyroid gland).
In addition, a telephone support clinic provides community follow-up for patients with this condition.
