Our shoulder and elbow teams meet to share best practice

Circle Health's Shoulder and Elbow Services (CSES), a multidisciplinary team of clinical and administrative staff, met earlier this year to share ideas and best practices. The twice-yearly meeting encourages staff from the Circle Health corporate office and all three Circle Health hospitals - Bath, Reading and Nottingham - to support our delivery of top-quality outcomes.

Staff met in May in Watford, which is easy for everyone in the business to travel to and from in a single day. They discussed procurement, patient reported outcome measures, research and auditing.

This meeting was followed by a session in the nearby Smith and Nephew cadaver lab where Circle surgeons and nurses, Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) and physios practiced skills in arthroscopy and an anatomy revision. The surgeons guided non-surgeon team members on 'doing' surgery techniques on the cadavers. "This forms great team understanding of what each member does to produce the quality outcomes of shoulder surgery that we have across Circle," said Andrew Chambler, Orthopaedic Surgeon and Clinical Chairman at Circle Bath Hospital.

In addition to greater camaraderie, this third installment of an ongoing series of meetings also produced hard results. The group agreed on new directions for the collection of patient reported outcome measures, which they are proposing to the hospitals' executive committee. There has been very effective engagement between our procurement team and the suppliers of various consumables. Indeed, Smith and Nephew, a Circle Health partner, expressed an interest of funding a fellow in a Circle Health shoulder unit.

Circle Health hospitals rank in the top 10 hospitals in the UK for orthopaedic surgery. Our Shoulder and Elbow Units bring together some of the most experienced, leading consultant surgeons in the UK, offering you the very best care. With advanced diagnostic equipment on-site and specialist consultant radiologists, we can provide a rapid diagnosis so that you can get better quickly.
