What is LEAP?

LEAP stands for ‘Lifestyle, Exercise, Activity and Pain’, which is the pain management programme run by Circle MSK for people living with persistent pain. Pain management programmes are an evidence based treatment, which have the goal of improving your quality of life, in spite of the pain symptoms you may be experiencing. It does this by supporting you to develop self-management strategies, so that you are able to take more control of how your pain is managed.

What is involved?

The LEAP programme runs over 6 consecutive weeks. Each session last 2.5 hours and groups usually have up to 15 other people.

The LEAP programme covers a range of topics, some examples are provided below:

  • What is pain?
  • Pain traps
  • Relaxation
  • Managing stress
  • Challenging thoughts
  • Physical activity
  • Nutrition and pain

Understanding Pain

Why is this done in groups?

Research shows that patients who work together in groups can find huge benefit and support from talking to other patients who experience pain. Across the UK, there is a rise in group pain programmes, as patients share experiences, learning and encourage each other to achieve their goals
