Phio self-referral

How can we help?

In partnership with the NHS logo

Phio is an innovative digital assessment tool which allows patients to access support for their condition 24/7 (please note that Phio is not available to patients in South and West Hertfordshire – please see further information below)*.

Designed by expert physiotherapists and underpinned by the latest clinical guidelines, Phio is an instantly available, digital consultation tool.  Phio will ask questions about you and your symptoms then, based on your responses and using clinical decision trees, will signpost you to the appropriate level of care, such as face to face physiotherapy, advanced assessment in the MSK service or telephone/virtual management.

If your condition is not suitable for the MSK service, or any clinical concerns are raised in the answers you give, Phio will signpost you to the most appropriate alternative service, explaining why that decision has been made. For peace of mind all completed assessments are reviewed by a physiotherapist to ensure the correct decision has been made.

*South and West Hertfordshire patients are not able to self-refer to the MSK service, but additional First Contact Physiotherapists (FCPs) – specialist MSK clinicians working in GP practices – will be available via your GP practice, who will be able to assess and help you quickly with your MSK problem.  Please contact your GP practice for further details.

Using Phio will ensure patients’ necessary information is captured all in one place, allowing for efficient signposting to the best suitable care. It supports them to begin their management in the right pathway from the beginning, giving them more control and ownership of their health and recovery.
