He trained in ENT at The Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital, London; The Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford; St Mary's Hospital, London; the Royal Marsden Hospital; The Manchester Royal Infirmary; and did a Fellowship in Brisbane, Australia.
As preparation for his ENT career he initially trained in Accident and Emergency, Plastic Surgery and General surgery.
He has chaired sessions on ear surgery at international meetings and runs a national course at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in facial skin cancer treatment and cosmetic ear surgery (pinnaplasty). He has been invited to teach operative surgery to other surgeons at the prestigious British Academic conference in Otolaryngology.

Mr Herdman is a Director of BRINOS, an ear surgery charity working in Nepal and, since 1995, has taken a surgical team to Nepal every 18 months, where approximately 100 major ear operations are performed per camp. He also teaches and operates in Burma (Myanmar) on an ad hoc basis.
Outside of work, he enjoys sculling on the Thames, training (an ongoing and very slow process), his wire-haired viszla and, when time allows, plays Real Tennis.

Mr Herdman is a Consultant ENT/Head and Neck Surgeon at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
