Professional profile

Mr Neil Bradbury is a knee specialist and nationally-acclaimed Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon. Mr Bradbury is one of the most renowned consultant knee surgeons in the UK, frequently approached by other specialists for a second opinion for patients with difficult problems and who need revision surgery.

He has close links to many high quality physiotherapists working in the South West of England as well as sports physicians, osteopaths and chiropractors. His aim is to get patients with a sporting injury or arthritis back to full function as quickly and simply as possible.

Whether you are a senior person with arthritis who wants to live a full and active life, or a sports person who wants to return to competition, Neil aims to ensure that you receive the very best treatment from highly qualified caring professionals at Circle Bath hospital.

Neil uses innovative surgical techniques for the management of arthritis such as half or uni-compartment knee replacement, patello-femoral (knee cap joint) replacement, osteotomy as well as performing total knee replacement.

For sports knee injuries he uses keyhole surgery, ligament reconstruction and pioneering techniques such as cartilage transplantation. Surgery is only part of what is required for patients to re-gain quality of life.

Circle Bath’s physiotherapy specialists can provide advice on preparing for surgery and returning to a normal life afterwards, and ensure patients receive physiotherapy treatment close to home by our trusted physiotherapy associates.

For patients with soft tissue problems, he works closely with Julian Widdowson, sports physician, who provides innovative treatment and advanced rehabilitation including Biodex assessment.

Mr Neil Bradbury trained in orthopaedic surgery at the Nottingham's Queens Medical Centre. The centre is one of the biggest and best orthopaedic hospitals in the country. He has also trained abroad in Australia with Dr Leo Pinczewski and Dr Mervyn Cross, and in the USA with Dr Richard Steadman. The three doctors are the most eminent knee surgeons in the world.

He is a director of Sportsmed Europe, which provides a complete, high quality orthopaedic and medical solution to patients with sports injuries and lower limb problems. Sportsmed Europe provides a fully integrated medical service to patients with sporting injuries or arthritis of the lower limb, from specialist physiotherapy advice through to surgery and rehabilitation.

Neil performs all types of knee surgery including ligament reconstruction, keyhole surgery, half and full knee replacement as well as knee cap joint replacement. He has a special interest in complex and multiple knee ligament injuries and has taught surgery on national medical courses.

Above all, Neil believes in personal, professional care for his patients.

Personal profile

Neil Bradbury is an active sportsman and his own passion for sport has helped him to understand the needs of the injured athletes he treats. He is a keen cyclist and has completed many events such as stages of the Tour De France and the Etape Du Tour.

He has also led outdoor pursuits for groups of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. One of these was a three month expedition to Patagonia, in the southern most section of the Andes.

Neil's true love is surfing, and he has been lucky enough to travel the world in search of great waves.
