Having qualified and completed his basic surgical training in Bristol, he undertook a two year laboratory-based research project examining mechanisms of breast cancer growth. This culminated in the award of a higher degree (MD) from Bristol University and numerous national and international presentations and publications. He completed his higher surgical training in general surgery within the south west region, specialising in breast cancer and reconstructive breast surgery.

In 2010 he was awarded a National Oncoplastic Breast Surgery training fellowship, completing a year within the department of Plastic and Reconstructive surgery in the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. During this period he was trained in all aspects of a wide variety of oncoplastic, reconstructive and aesthetic breast surgical procedures.
