Professional profile

I am a consultant adult and paediatric dermatologist and hold an NHS post at the King Edward VII Hospital in Windsor where I am the clinical lead for skin cancer services and children’s dermatology.

I graduated in medicine from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne Medical School with the Goyder Memorial commendation in Medicine and Surgery. I also hold an intercalated First Class Honours degree in Genetics and was ranked top student during my research year. I am one of a handful of UK dermatologists who have been awarded the prestigious and highly competitive Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Fellowship. I also hold a PhD in Skin Sciences from the University of London and was the first National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Lecturer in dermatology in London.

I trained in dermatology at the world renowned St John's Institute of Dermatology based at Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. I have had further training in Paediatric and Adolescent Dermatology at the world famous Chicago Children’s Memorial Hospital in the United States.

I have published over 60 peer-reviewed papers in high impact international journals including Nature Medicine, the New England Journal of Medicine, American Journal of Human Genetics, American Journal of Pathology, Trends in Molecular Medicine and the Journal of Investigative Dermatology. I have presented at major international conferences and have been invited to give talks in the United States and Japan.

I have received national and international prizes in dermatology including the Euroderm Excellence Prize, St Johns Dermatological Society Registrar Prize, British Association of Dermatologists Registrar Prize, British Society for Investigative Dermatology Young Investigator Prize, British Society for Paediatric Dermatology Fellowship, Joint European Society for Dermatological Research/ Society for Investigative Dermatology Collegiality Award and Joint European Society for Dermatological Research/ Japanese Society for Investigative Dermatology Collegiality Award.

My aim is to provide a high-end individually tailored specialist dermatology service and accepts referrals from GPs, paediatricians and other doctors.

I am married with three young children and enjoy photography, table tennis and squash.

British Society for Paediatric Dermatology Fellowship (2011) – awarded to study advanced paediatric dermatology at the Chicago Children’s Memorial Hospital under the supervision of Professor Amy Paller and Dr Annette Wagner.

Euroderm Excellence Prize (2011) – ranked fourth in dermatology examination amongst 150 selected European residents.

European Society for Dermatological Research Future Leaders Award (2011) – awarded to European-based dermatologists to develop and promote academic dermatology in Europe.

British Society for Investigative Dermatology Young Investigator Award (2010) - annual award by the BSID to a young investigator with a history of publishing high quality, original research articles on skin-related sciences and/or disease

Joint European Society for Dermatological Research/Japanese Society for Investigative Dermatology fellowship (ESDR/JSID) (2009) – awarded to attend the Japanese Society for Investigative Dermatology, Fukuoka, December 2009 and to visit the Department of Gene Therapy Science at Osaka University (Professor Katsuto Tamai).

British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) Registrars and Professors Prize (2009) - awarded for best presentation at the Registrars and Professors session at the BAD meeting in Glasgow, July 2009.

British Society for Investigative Dermatology Registrar Prize (2009) – awarded for best presentation by a dermatology registrar, Cirencester, April 09.

ESDR/BAD/IID Travel Fellowship (2008) - awarded to sponsor attendance at the International Investigative Dermatology Meeting in Kyoto, Japan, May 2008.

ESDR/SID Young Fellow Award (2007) - awarded jointly by the European Society for Dermatological Research and the Society for Investigative Dermatology to attend the SID 2007 meeting as well as a visit to a host institution in the US (Professor Angela Christiano) en route to the SID.

St John’s Dermatological Society Registrar Prize (2006) - awarded for high quality presentation at St John’s Dermatological Society Meetings 2005-2006.

BAD Travel Fellowship (2006) - awarded by the British Association of Dermatologists to sponsor attendance at the European Society for Dermatological Research Meeting 2006, Paris, France.

Royal College of Physicians (Mersey Deanery) Prize in General Internal Medicine (2003) - awarded for highest mark obtained in a general internal medicine competition organised by the Royal College of Physicians (Mersey Deanery) at the Liverpool Medical Institution, March 2003.
