What is an Upper Arm, Thigh or Body Lift?

An upper arm, thigh or body lift operation involves removing excess fat, tightens the skin and re-contours the area.

Why have an upper arm, thigh or body lift?

An Upper Arm, Thigh or Body Lift procedure often is suitable for patients who have lost significant amounts of weight through diet and exercise or through weight loss surgery, leaving loose skin. Another common reason for excess skin is due to genetics or the natural ageing process. This can be above or below the waistline and may appear at the front, back or sides or a combination. For many, no amount of physical activity can alter their body shape.

Your upper arm, thigh or body lift operation

Your chosen consultant will make an incision to remove the excess skin and fat. The remaining skin is stretched and stitched back together leaving the area slimmer and smoother. There will be some visible scarring which your surgeon will discuss with you before your operation. The operation is usually performed under general anaesthetic.

Recovery

After surgery, you'll most likely need to stay in hospital for one or two nights. You should plan to take a week off work to rest at home and give your body the chance to recover properly. Strenuous activity will need to be avoided for several weeks.

You can usually see the full results of the procedure in about three weeks. There will be an unavoidable scar, which may fade over time. Where possible, the scar is generally hidden in the natural crease of the body and can usually be covered by clothing. There will be some discomfort in the first few days, and swelling and bruising may occur, but this will pass and can be eased with painkillers. All of this will be discussed with you by your consultant surgeon in full prior to your procedure.
