Spinal and neurosurgery

The Spinal and Neurosurgery Unit concentrates exclusively on treating problems of the cervical, thoracic and lumber spine for patients. Our fully integrated approach to neck and back problems includes conservative treatment and pain management; scoliosis assessment and treatment; spinal stenosis surgery, spinal fusion and osteoporosis in addition to micro-discectomy. As specialists in the management of spinal disorders, patients are referred to the spinal unit for evaluation and treatment from all over the country.

All patients are fully assessed clinically and with appropriate investigations such as X-ray, CT and MRI scans. Cases will be reviewed by a multidisciplinary team comprising a spine surgeon, pain specialist, specialist nurse and physiotherapist. Treatments include physical therapy, spinal injections and all forms of surgery.

The Spine Unit brings together leading specialists including consultant orthopaedic surgeons Mr Otto von Arx and Mr Paul Thorpe, consultant neurosurgeons Mr Richard Edwards, Mr Greg Fellows, Mr Venkat Iyer, Mr Ian Pople and Mr Crispin Wigfield and consultant pain anaesthetists Dr Michael Coupe, Dr Stephen Hill and Dr Andrew Souter to offer a world class service.
