Professional Profile

Jonathon Luck trained at Manchester University and went on to teach Human Anatomy and Cell Biology to medical students in Liverpool. He then joined the renowned St Paul's Eye Unit in Liverpool to begin his post-graduate ophthalmic training.

A wide based training in all aspects of ophthalmology was followed by further training at St James' Hospital, the General Infirmary in Leeds and the Bradford Royal Infirmary. Jonathon Luck's interest in corneal surgery and treatment of corneal problems began here, and in 1994 he studied in Australia at the Flinders Medical Centre under the mentorship of Professor Doug Coster, a world expert in corneal disease. As well as teaching Australian interns 'keyhole' phakoemulsification cataract surgery, he undertook a research program into corneal grafting.

In 1995 Jonathon Luck was appointed Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Royal United Hospital in Bath. His main interest lies in Refractive and Cataract surgery, and he performs high-volume cataract surgery, corneal surgery including corneal grafting and squint surgery in addition to a wide variety of other procedures. He has a particular interest and wide experince of Laser Vision Correction, as well as many other forms of refractive surgery, including Multifocal lens implantation to eliminate the need for reading glasses.

Jonathon Luck has presented papers and given lectures on Refractive Surgery and Laser Vision Correction at National and International meetings and has numerous papers published in peer-reviewed journals. He currently reviews refractive papers submitted to the British Journal of Ophthalmology.
